Flatbed for proofing?

Do you guys have a preferred scanner for proofing negs up to 8x10? My first scanner was an Agfa Snapscan with the "transparency lid" option. It was awesome because there was a light in the lid, so I could just lay negs on the glass and go. I could do 8x10 negs or an entire roll of 35 or 120. I'd prefer not to have to use film holders. It doesn't have to be as good as the Epson 750, because final scans will be done on my Howtek.

I believe the Epson 700/750 will do a full 8x10 right on the glass.
look for a refurbished one at Epson.

Christopher.... on the odd occasion that I'm not sure about whether to scan a neg.... I just get out my iPhone, stick the thing on the light box and take a shot, then reverse it in PShop...

If I had tons of 35mm I might feel differently, but this simply thing works for me, and I don't need another scanner.

There's an app for that, you don't even need to take a snap you can just view the image reversed in real time, you can also invert the colors on your iPhone to do that too...

If you want a scanner, an Epson 4990 might be the ticket; very cheap and surprisingly good quality scans.
Will scan an 8x10.
Otherwise, the iPhone trick is effective as well.

Proofing on a light box has been working well for me. I tether to Lightroom, where I have a develop preset to invert/tweak.121150

Agreed.. I do the neg on a lightbox with an iphone all the time.. Nearly every time I develop negs I'll snap a pic of at least one of them to get a feel for it before it dries... :)
