This question is for the very few here that are using horizontal enlargers...ACTIVE WORKERS ONLY PLEASE....

I am setting up 8x10 durst CLS 2000 for horizontal projection,, I have 300mm Rodagon and 360mm Rodagon, as well all the smaller usual suspect lenses right down to 35mm..

What would be very very helpful if one of you users, who have the lenses and horizontal setup do a measurement of the different formats, 8x10, 4x5, 6x9 35mm ( I understand similar aspect ratio) to see the distance from Lens to wall when making a 40 x50 inch or better said 50 inch on the long side.

My kit is not set up for horizontal right now and I am designing my darkroom and the distance from lens tip to wall would be extremely helpful..

A physical measurment would be great as then I can calculate the enlarger girth and see if what I have planned for it will actually work.

huge thanks in advance to anyone willing to do this for me.

Hi Bob,

The numbers in the Durst link seem pretty close to me. I work with a horizontal enlarger set up and routinely work with a 300 mm Rodagon lens (also have a 240 El Nikor). I find that for a 16 x 20 print size with the 300 mm lens, looking through the focusing scope and reaching back at the same time to adjust the focus on the enlarger where the lens is works out to be about as far as I can reach (and I have long arms as you may remember). I'll be doing some printing this weekend so I'll remember to take some actual measurements for you. Note that I can't do measurements with medium format film, but can for 8 x 10 and 4 x 5.

Hi Bob,

Sorry it has taken this long - to many other things have been going on and haven't had a chance to get out to my darkroom to take actual measurements.

So - I use both a 240 mm El Nikkor F5.6 and a 300 mm Rodenstock Rodagon F5.6 lens. The following are actual measurements with each lens with 8 x 10 film.

240 El Nikkor

Image size = 20 x 25 - 47 1/4" from easel to film plane - 34" from easel to center of lens.
Image size = 24 x 30 - 51" from easel to film plane - 38 1/4" from easel to center of lens.
Image size = 27 x 34 1/2 - 54" from easel to film plane - 42" from easel to center of lens.

300 mm Rodagon

Image size = 11 x 14 - 47 1/4" from easel to film plane - 27 1/4" from easel to center of lens.
Image size = 16 x 20 - 52" from easel to film plane - 34 1/2" from easel to center of lens.
Image size = 16 3/4 x 21 1/4 - 54" from easel to film plane - 37" from easel to center of lens.
