For the group photo of the wetplate workshop Mark and I taught yesterday, I wanted us all in the photo. With today's popular 'selfie' images, I thought, why not with wetplate? While Mark poured the 6x8 plate, I tied a string to my darkcloth, draped over the lens. With the plate in the camera, I pulled the darkcloth off for the 15 second exposure, then jumped up and covered the lens. Note you can see through my legs and arms from when I left. Post 'em if you got 'em!

It's easy with artificial lights, I just plugged them into a power strip under the table, and flicked it on and off with my toe. :)

(BTW, great workshop yesterday! :) )

Nice, I see a few ghost images coming from this.

Really great to put a face to a name.

Keep them coming folks. I think a wetplate self shot really is a deeper glimpse into the photographer than most processes.

Sally Mann has done this. It's shown in a section of the video biography from PBS.

Usually happens when I have nothing else to photograph...

Yep, but it's a great pack of loonies! :)

My excuses:
1.) Three cups of coffee
2.) I was standing
3.) I wanted this to be a very "moving" image
4.) Pixies were tickling me
5.) I'm not sure, but it was probably Garrett's fault...

At some point, we need to do a wet plate workshop exclusively for beautiful young women...

I thought you only shot tiny women with wings these days.

True, but I'm not sure I'd survive an "all-pixie" workshop! Those little mischief-makers would have the chemicals flying everywhere...
