8x10 Safelight

Hello all,

I have a lot of Kodak safelight filters in 8x10 but I don't have the safelight!
I check on *bay and in multiples websites and forums and never saw a 8x10 safelight. Who dit that size? Do you have an exact model name?

Maybe I have the choice to cut the filters in 5x7 size (I have some safelight this size) but I think this will not easy because the filter is between 2 glasses. Someone do this?
Other choice is to made a 8x10 adapter for a 10x12 safelight I already have.

Other choice is to sell the 8x10 filters!

Take one of the 8x10 filters and cut it in half, so you have two 4x10 filters.

Mate one of those with one 8x10 filter (factory-cut edges together), seal with black tape, and
you have a 10x12 filter.

Adopter would be easier. Just get a 10x12 piece of glass or plex, put the 8x10 in the middle and tape off 1" on all four sides

Thanks both, Leigh give me the idea to try the 8x10 filter in vertical position. This way I will need to make an opaque mask only for the remaining 4x10. The parts need to fit tight into the grove too. Theses 10x12 safelights are Kodak Model D.

But Kodak or other companies should have made theses 8x10 safelights in the past as 8x10 filters exist. Never saw one!!

I have a Wrattan safelight no. 1 from Eastman Kodak. A 20" x 12" x6" box with slide in 8x10 filters on the bottom and a 8x6 white filter with sliding cover on the top. From the looks I would say 1920-30's era

Thanks Bill for the info. It is a big box 20"x12"!
I will do my inventory of filters! I need to decide for the new darkroom (second room). I have also a lot of 5 1/2" round and 5x7. Maybe I will try to standardize the squares one to fit the 10x12 Kodak D that I have already with some opaque adapters. I prefer to not tape nothing to be able to change easily but it need to be without light leaks.
Still curious about the lack of 8x10 safelights models.

sell your 8x10 filters. Install a tracklight fixture and fill it with cheap red LED bulbs.
