Great work! I especially like the sausages the model is holding in her hands. It takes away the unnecessary attention to her face and brings it where one can rightly contemplate the deeper meaning of the picture!
She's not a model. She's my wife. The meaning of the picture is that I wanted a photo of her. We went on our honeymoon in Italy 17 years ago and just recently made it back.

We all have voices we listen to. My muses come to me in the most unexpected moments and places. I try to use them in my photography, that's why I'm rarely separated from my camera even on gray days. Cheers!

Get help soon for your personality disorder. In the meantime, please restrain your urge to make weird comments that don't reflect well on you. Cheers!

Don't be sad, even a wife can be a model. Sorry for the 17 years but the Italian trains are known for not keeping their time table. Glad I knew there was a deeper meaning in your portrait.

I do have a question. You and your wife are re-visiting your honeymoon in Venice...when do you get the chance to take your photo excursions? Does she accompany you?

Thanks Trent. I appreciate that. My wife actually had to attend a work conference in Padua near Venice and when she asked me if I wanted to come along (and Grandma and Grandpa kindly agreed to watch the kids), of course I said yes. But to answer your question, I had a couple of days where I roamed around by myself, and then she took some days off so we could explore together. She's fairly patient about me stopping to take pictures, but I'm not sure it would if that would have been the case if I'd had my view camera! Although we were joking that we needed to come up with an agreement that for every blind alley I plunged down, she could stop into two shops or something. Anyway though, we worked it out. Here at home my photography is almost always done alone.

I keep coming back to this thread to admire what's being posted here - such great work!

I don't shoot MF often, but maybe I should change that. It's quite nice as a compromise between the swiftness of tiny and the long-winded elaborateness of LF.

This was last week on Fomapan 200 in Pyrocat HD. I never used this film before, but heard all sorts of things about it (both good and bad) so I thought I should try. So far, I like it.

My neighbour asked me to take photos of her new house before it is renovated. Built in the 1860's, it belonged to a local ship builder, but has stood empty and unheated for the last fifty years. Amazingly, it is in fair condition.

Love the result you're getting with the Acros and HC110 (H). Are you willing to share any time/temp/agitation info? The tonal scale on all your images is beautiful.

Not a problem Trent. 8 minutes & 30 seconds @ 23C - Light agitation/inversions for the initial 30 seconds - 2 light agitation/inversions every minute thereafter.

Thanks! I've been easing back into film photography after a 16 year absence. I'll use your recommendations as a point of departure for my own work. I had picked Acros for my medium format "film of choice", and was vacillating between HC110 and Xtol. I used both before with medium format, 4x5 and 5x7, but with Tri-X and Agfa Pan 25 (120 roll). Your results are pretty much what I was visualizing for my med format shooting. Thanks again!

I lug it around for when I need an interesting subject. It only weighs about 300 pounds. :-)

Seems like you should incorporate the wheel into some kind of cart to carry your gear. Then you wouldn't have to lug it around.

I was down in Denver racing Drones inside a concert one evening (I race drones with MultiGP as one of my other hobbies). The area where the concert was held is in an old industrial area, old warehouses, silos, and mills are everywhere.

As I walked back to my truck I looked up at the old mill as I was walking past and noticed the lights. Some of them were flickering on and off. In one window it looked like an old tv set was on as the light in one window was changing colors. With the low clouds and the area I was in, I can tell you, it was spooky, like something out of an old horror movie.

Luckily, I had a camera in my truck, an old Mamiya C3 TLR I just bought. I metered the scene with a Gossen Luna Pro F,and balanced the camera on the side of my truck, trying to hold it as still as I could, then took a 15 second exposure, it was dark.

Here's what I captured. Shot with a 65mm f3.5 lens on Fuji Neopan Acros 100 rated at 50 and developed in Pyrocat MC for 12 minutes.

When my father passed away last month, I inherited his negatives (50,000+). As I've been working to organize them, I regularly come across gems like the one below.

My father took this photograph of my younger sister and brother in 1963. He shot it with Tri-X. The lighting is coming from our TV and a window nearby. When viewing this 50+ year old negative on my light table, it looks like it was shot last week. I love black and white film.

Went hiking today at a spot on the Appalachian Trail called Three Forks, to Long Creek Falls. I've been to many of the waterfalls in the hills of GA but boy this one was nice. This whole trail area was phenomenal and I can't wait till the seasons change as there are rhododendron plants everywhere. Supposedly this is one of the most beautiful stretches of the trail in GA.

Anyway, shot 3 rolls of film but here's 3 of the best frames. Taken with my Linhof 70 and 38mm XL (first one) or 58mm XL (other two), on Plus-X dev'd in Rodinal 1:50 for 10:30:

http://garrisaudiovisual.com/photosharing/3forks-4222ss.jpg

http://garrisaudiovisual.com/photosharing/3forks-4220ss.jpg

http://garrisaudiovisual.com/photosharing/3forks-4227ss.jpg

PS: You'll notice on the first one a strip of exposed film to the right of the full frame area. I have no idea why, but the Linhof 70 roll film holder does this sporadically. Sometimes the strip gets into the frame - look at the top of the second image and you can see that, and I cropped the last one due to this. Any clue what's up with this? I might post a thread about it because it has me stumped. I can't imagine how that could happen.

Images from Governor's Island, NY, taken the last weekend of September, which was the final day of the public season on the island. All the images are HP5+, developed Pyrocat, using my Rollei 6006. These are all negative scans with minimal processing, since I will be printing them 11x11 which is too large for me to scan. I was tempted to bring the 4x5, but was pretty sure that the Park Service wouldn't allow tripods in the building interiors, which interested me the most.

The first two images are interior pictures from Castle Williams, which was originally built as a fort to protect NY Harbor during the War of 1812. It was never used as a fort, but was used as a prison for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, and was still used as a prison during WWII, before becoming a NPS site.

The second fort on the island is Fort Jay, which I believe was used primarily as officer's quarters. This is the rear of one of those buildings, taken from close to the site of one of the many cannons which were mounted on the battlements of the star-shaped fort.

And finally the least "artistic" image, but the one nobody can resist, the NYC skyline from Governor's Island. I took this while walking the perimeter of the island, and discovered that about 2-minutes further along there was actually a small platform designed for people to enjoy their "Kodak Moment!" (This one is obviously cropped from the 6x6 negative.)

One thing I love about the AT is that interspersed on the trail are big trees that have been at some point were chopped up and made into sitting areas, I assume. They are just too neat and well cut for anything else. Great places to relax after climbing up that steep hill. Same camera/lens but cropped to an 11x14, as I might print:

Thanks, I would have liked a sharper negative too. I won't print these any larger. The depth of field just isn't there. This is truly one of those places where the forward tilt of a view camera would have been worth the backpacking struggle. Maybe a return trip is in order.

With wide angle lenses it's less important, but they are not only inaccurate for framing, but for precise focusing too - especially when interchangeable lenses are involved.

Stand development in Rodinal has always been problematic for me on 120 roll film. If it isn't uneven development it is what looks like bromide drag below the windows common to the highlights. But I keep trying.

Why?

Rodinal is already a compensating developer.

Use it with minimal agitation for the recommended time and print the neg.

Gelatin-silver photograph on Agfa Classic MCC 111 FB VC, image area 16.5cm X 21.5cm, from a Tmax 400 negative exposed in a Mamiya RB67 camera fitted with a 50mm f4.5 lens.

The gallery lights are not on and the space is cool and dark. The Mamiya RB67 has no self-timer and the photographer has no assistant so the camera shutter was opened, the photographer walked quickly to the armchair, sat quietly for a minute and then got up, walked back to the camera, and closed the shutter. There is some ghosting in the image.

Because I can, and I did, develop 400TMY and 100ACR in the same tank at the same time with stand development. One-hour stand dev time is for all films. Yes, 100ACR is Acros. The code is not found on roll film but you will see on their sheet film.

Really like the perspective in that last one HHS.

Today I received in the mail, finally, a Rolleicord I ("Art Deco" model) that I sent out for repair last year. Long story. Anyway, this camera is so cool looking and the Triotar lens is quite a performer. This one was probably made in '35 or '36 considering the late serial number. Took it out for a spin today - I actually found a state park that is open but not actually finished, with new construction going on. It's a beautiful site and I am definitely returning with some LF in the future. Here's two shots - a Lake House which is being remodeled and a view of Yonah Mountain in the distance, which I've never heard of till today and will be definitely making a trip to summit that soon as well.

I received my pentax 6*7 (and first film camera) a few weeks ago, this is one of my first pic with it. I'm completely in love with the process of shooting film.

For fun, I compared the numbers of good pics I took with my digital camera against the pentax during a shoot with a friend of mine, these are the results :

300 shots with my fuji xt:10 - 50 ok pics including 10 greats ones = 1 great pic every 30 shot.

20 shots with my pentax 6x7 : 15 ok pics -including 6 great ones = 1 great pic every 3 shot.

I still have a lot to learn, and especially I have to find a good way to scan my negative, but this might be the best stuff I've ever bought :)

Thanks Leigh, tuco. These were taken on the morning after the storm that rolled through a couple of days ago. I'd never seen the ocean churned up like this. When the wind picked up, the foam would blow into the air. I wish I had gotten a photo of that, but the weather was still pretty unsettled and hard to photograph in.

If you use Rodinal as designed, it's a compensating developer that does not blow the highlights.

I've had similar problems using Rodinal and Tri-X at 1:100. It might have been a temperature issue, but I never did a scientific test to find out.

Sorry, my post was too terse. Previous attempts with other developers did not work. I meant that the Rodinal was more successful for me in this environment.

How does the negative look for highlight detail? Scanning a print is now a 3rd generation image. And the print can't grab all the density that is on the negative without help just like commodity scanners can't get all that's on a negative either.

That's true. There's more on the Rodinal-developed film that a digital scan would be able to recover, compared to this scan of a print. So a digital print would probably be a better image if I wanted to direct my life down the digital path. I am pleased with this, however, because it allows me to get a decent image under a circumstance where HC-110-development would have been hopelessly blown out, even with pull-processing.
If we ever see the sun again, I've got some coastal trees that I want to re-visit with my Rollei i.r. film and use this development again.

Excellent!

Here's a few from my visit to Canada last month. Five Islands Provincial Park in Nova Scotia. Same Rolleiflex as always. tmy2 in pyrocat hdc. The woods weren't that much different and I felt at home. The park is known for it's views of the head of the bay of Fundy, but I was most impressed with the woods road entering the park. It perfectly opened up the woods for great compositions without spoiling wildness.

I'm trying Rodinal stand development of Rollei i.r. film to tone down highlights in Whidbey Island bluff views. Previous tries with Rollei in HC110-B were just too exaggerated, even with some pull-processing. I think this is working better, not so overdone with the infrared look, but far more interesting than tries with TriX at the same location.
