I just found out that I could remove the number wheel in 4x5 Grafmatic holders.

Too bad I returned it a long ago...:(

I'm thinking of buying it again but before I make my move, I want to make sure if I remove the number wheel, I won't able to see any difference between a regular Fidelity 4x5 holder or grafmatic by just looking at the film. Am I correct?

Thanks!

You are incorrect. You will be able to tell the difference. Because of how the septums are designed, the mask pattern you get from Grafmatics it different from one you get from using Fidelity, Lisco, etc.

But yes, that wheel does come off relatively easily, after which you won't see anything there.

Yeah, the wheel comes off easily. The whole magazine disassembles very easily for thorough cleaning, and it is nice to see how they are built.

I will also chime in to say that it is an easy task to remove the wheel.

I actually like the wheel there it helps me pair up the negative with my exposure notes.

I pulled all the wheels from mine, but it is easy to do so reversibly, so they can be put back if desired. A good time to clean the whole thing too, while it is a apart.
